Few kilometers northwest of the town of Kalabaka, the impressive rocks of Meteora rise from the plains of Thessaly.
Meteora in Greek means “place suspended in the air”, and this perfectly describes these remarkable Greek Orthodox monasteries. The complex was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1988 and was declared an official holy place for Greece since 1995
