Transfer by vaporetto to the most beautiful district of Venice, the Castello. Watch a costume contest in a colorful environment with harlequins, casanovas and marquises. Unforgettable images that will remain engraved in the mind are the gondolas decorated with flowers and lanterns as well as the fantastic handmade masks and costumes. On the city tour we will visit the Holy Metropolis of Greece in Northern Italy, the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Georgiou and the Hellenic Institute of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Research. Through picturesque cobblestones, blinding canals and countless palaces we will end up in “the most beautiful living room in the world” according to Napoleon, Piazza San Marco. We will see the basilica of St. Markou, the famous tower of the Moors, the Markian Library of the city, the “cheka” the old mint, the Campanile the tallest building in the city, the Piazzetta of St. Markos, the old and new prisons and, of course, the famous bridge of Sighs. Finally we will end up in one of the remaining manufacturing workshops of the famous Murano glass. Free time to take a ride in the gondolas, have a drink in the famous cafes of the square and get lost with the masquerades in another era. Back to hotel. Overnight.
Day 4
VENICE – VERONA – LAGO DI GARDA – SIRMIONE
Breakfast at the hotel and departure for Verona, the city where the greatest literary love was born and died, that of Romeo and Juliet. A city overflowing with romance and picturesqueness. And it is not only the river that runs through it, the countless impressive Catholic churches, Renaissance buildings and Roman monuments adorn it. It’s the way it’s all ‘tied together’, with cobbled pavements and modest squares acting as connective tissues that you just have to follow, without a map, to ‘take’ you to yet another street market, to yet another bright patio . We will see the Arena of Verona, one of the most well-preserved of the Roman Empire in the world, despite its, at least, 2,000 years. The Castelvecchio castle, built on the banks of the Andige will transport us to the Middle Ages and the Scaligieri dynasty. The central square of Bra continues and through Via Mazzini, with its elegant shops, we will be led to the beautiful Piazza del Erbe with the open-air market and the surrounding cafes in front of the entrance to impressive monuments. Then we head to the largest lake in Italy, the magnificent Lake Garda, whose calm waters reflect the slopes of the adjacent Alpine mountains. There we will experience the unique diversity of landscapes starting from the Sirmione peninsula, the most popular resort of the lake with its small port, picturesque stone houses and narrow streets in the medieval fortress. Back to Hotel. Overnight.
